Creating a Positive Workplace Culture For Your Employees: Do’s And Don’ts

Ever wondered what makes an organization a top priority for talented professionals? Its work culture. Even young professionals who are starting out in their career look for companies whose work culture is not just dynamic, but also positive.

The way an employee is treated is an organization directly influences their will to achieve the company’s goals and contribute to its growth. Working in a positive workplace helps employees stay engaged and motivates them to perform to the best of their abilities.

So how do you provide employees an atmosphere like that? How do you build a workplace culture where employees feel encouraged to deliver great work? How do you create a workplace that makes employees feel excited to come to work?

Here are some Do’s and Don’ts that you must take seriously to create an environment where employees thrive:

  • Do : HELP EMPLOYEES GROW
    Investing in employee learning & growth is a must for every organization. While most companies see it as a perk, in reality it is a necessity considering learning new things allows employees to perform better. Companies must invest in a top LMS to provide employees with online learning solutions as they are affordable and save time spent by employees on learning. This becomes a win-win situation for the company and the employees. Learning Management Systems (LMS) can also be good for motivation, depending on how they are implemented and used. LMS platforms often provide immediate feedback and allow learners to track their progress, helping them stay motivated by seeing their improvement and understanding areas where they need to focus more. It can be really simple for businesses to understand the basics of a learning management system and how they can vastly improve both productivity and employee morale.

  • Don’t : PUSH EMPLOYEES TO WORK LONG HOURS
    One of the worst things you can do to your employees is to push them to work long hours. It is detrimental to their health and reduces their focus. It is extremely bad for their mental health to be pushed into working late or in between breaks as our brain needs to rest every now and then. Working without a break can build up stress and deteriorate their quality of work, and affect their performance.

  • Do : REWARD GOOD PERFORMANCE
    Appreciation is a huge motivating factor. Employees who perform well must be recognized and their efforts should be acknowledged publicly. This encourages them to keep delivering better results. Rewarding employees for their outstanding work makes them feel valued, and encourages others too to up their game. You could consider treating them to a special dinner at a fancy restaurant or a relaxing spa day with a gift card. It saves employees from the hassle of commuting to & fro work and helps them build a better work-life balance. This increases employee satisfaction and boosts their morale, which reflects positively in their work.

  • Don’t : TOLERATE MICROMANAGING MANAGERS
    Managers obsessing about what an employee is upto and constantly trying to control them often cause employees a lot of stress. Such behaviour makes employees feel that they are not trusted to do their job well, which deteriorates their connection with their manager. Trying to control unimportant details and fussing over them should be avoided to ensure employees feel safe.

  • Do : PROMOTE DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE
    Having a diverse workforce allows a company to have talented individuals onboard regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religion, race, sexual orientation, or their background. This greatly increases business productivity as employees are hired solely based on their merits. Moreover it encourages innovation as employees get to learn from each other. To help you find the best candidates suited to the company’s needs, whether that is in the personnel or tech sector, you may want to utilize it executive recruiters for instance, so that you are not wasting time on people who do not match up.
