The classic dinner-and-a-movie date is all well and good but lacks a certain je ne sais quoi. Unless it’s a secret cinema, playing the newest manga, it just doesn’t have the geek factor that you may be looking for. If you’ve got that special someone in your lift whose just as wonderfully nerdy as you, then take them out on a fun-filled date.
These quirky date ideas are great for new couples or those who’ve been dating for years. Here are options to satisfy you and your sweetie regardless of the weather or mood that you’re in.
1. Check out an arcade
Gaming at home on the couch is already fun as it is. Gaming in public is even better! Grab your coins and head to an arcade. Indulge in some friendly competition and try to beat each other’s scores. Spend hours on DDR without being judged and see who has the best moves. Race virtual race cars, roll balls into holes for points, and tackle a zombie apocalypse together. Drink blue slushies until your tongues turn blue. In the end, trade-in your well-earned prize and leave with a souvenir from your fun night together. For an added thrill, consider also going to QuestRoom escape rooms for a unique and immersive gaming experience.
2. Trivia night
Search your local listings for a bar hosting a trivia night. Many restaurants and bars host trivia nights on the regular, and it’s a fun way to work together. Come up with a silly name for your team and secretly troll the competition. Many trivia nights will also have themes, so look out for ones featuring your favorite categories. You can share a platter of nachos, a few pints, and learn a few things in the process. Even if you don’t win the trivia game, you might just win a kiss at the end of the night.
3. See a theatre show
With so much time spent staring at screens, it’s fun to mix it up once and a while. Seeing live theater brings the stories to life and makes you feel part of the show. Ogle at the incredible costumes and makeup and take note for your next cosplay opportunity. You and your date can discuss the plot during intermission and guess what turn the story is going to take. Plus, going to the theater feels classy and allows you to get spruced up. Who doesn’t like a little sprucing sometimes? You can find theater tickets for almost every genre you can think of at Ticket Sales.
4. Geocaching
If you’ve never heard of geocaching, you are missing out on the world’s largest treasure hunt. If it’s beautiful weather, and want to get outdoors with your adventure buddy, it’s the perfect date idea. Geocaching is a real-life treasure hunt where you receive the GPS coordinates of a geocache, and then you have to go and find it! The geocache is usually a small, weatherproof container containing a log-book and little trinkets. Sign the log-book with your date to make it official. If you take something from the cache, make sure that you leave something fun in return.
