Google has presented 74 & 75 versions of its browser in the latest months. Many users may not have noticed new features added by developers. In this article, we will review all the innovations and possibilities that main Google developers decided to add.
Google Chrome 74 & 75 – What is New?
The updated browser has received animation restriction mode, Incognito detection lock, support for multimedia keys for the Picture-in-Picture video, and other improvements.
Google Chrome 74 New Features
GPU Acceleration for Linux & Windows Applications
Chrome OS 74 will support GPU acceleration – at least for some baseboards. It appears that the initial deployment may be limited to certain Chromebox devices, but soon more support for devices on Chrome OS should appear.
Incognito detection block
Some sites use certain tricks to determine if a user is using Incognito mode. This technique is used to improve the tracking and display of relevant advertising. Starting from Chrome 74, this trick will not work – you can safely visit sites. This feature may initially be unavailable on the settings page and hidden under a separate flag. In Chrome 75, it should be available to all users.
Animation constraint
Some users experience the effect of “motion sickness” due to parallax animation when using scrolling or scaling. In Chrome 74, it will be possible to disable the feature with prefers-reduced-motion mode. It seems that websites will have to take this parameter into account, and the setting will not work on all sites on the Internet.
While these changes are most important to the browser, Google has worked hard on improvements to the Chrome OS operating system, especially its work with Linux & Windows applications. All these changes are available for users when they get google chrome download for windows 10 64 bit.
Backup Linux Containers
The new backup and restore feature for Linux containers in Chrome OS 74 will allow users to easily back up and restore their full Linux container, including all files and installed applications.
Sound support for Linux & Windows applications
Up to this point, Linux applications did not support audio playback on Chrome OS. Beginning with Chrome OS 74, things change. Linux audio players and video players will work much better.
Access to USB devices in Linux & Windows applications
If you remember with sadness the times when you debugged Android applications using a Linux terminal on a Chromebook, then those times are back. Starting with Chrome OS 74, applications running in Linux containers will be able to access USB devices. This feature is currently hidden behind a flag in the Chrome 74 beta version (chrome: // flags / # crostini-USB-support).
Fix Hangouts Issues
Fixed a bug that caused video hangouts in Hangouts and overall poor performance on Chrome OS. The problem was fixed in the 74th version.
Google Chrome 75 New Features
Compared to previous releases in Chrome 74, there are not many new features. This is a rather transitional version on the way to bigger things that are expected in Chrome 75.
Dark theme for Windows: Chrome 73 got a dark theme for Mac. As expected, the dark theme in Chrome 75 will be officially available for Windows. The browser will take into account the settings of the operating system. If you turn on the dark theme in Windows 10, then Chrome will also switch to it. The same behavior will be for a bright topic.
- Send tabs: users can send tabs directly from one device to another. You can start reading the material on the smartphone, and continue on the computer.
- Blocking hidden downloads: this security feature is designed to block the automatic downloading of files from advertising frames.
- Focus mode: in this mode, the omnibox, the bookmarks bar, and all other potentially distracting elements from the tabs will be deleted. They will be placed in separate windows to focus on content.
- A separate menu for extensions: extensions will be removed from the main menu for maximum convenience. You can try in Chrome Canary by turning on the chrome: // flags / # extensions-toolbar-menu flag.
- Automatic image descriptions: a new feature-enabled feature will allow Chrome to detect image descriptions for people with visual impairments automatically.
- Smooth scrolling: this feature will be kindly provided by Microsoft and was originally implemented in Edge.
- Lock access to the accelerometer and light sensor. You can prevent websites from accessing the accelerometer and the light sensor on your devices.
- New setup screen: The first launch wizard will be updated in Chrome 75.
- Reading mode: one of the most sought after features of Chrome.
All these features make Google Chrome one of the popular browsers among many users. Developers are looking forward to improving the browser, and many people are waiting for innovative changes.
