The above listed and 10 other companies grew 299 percent between 2003 and 2013, according to a report from consulting firm Motiv Strategies. In this report, the S&P 500 grew 75 percent during the same period.

But fulfilling what these companies is hardly simple. No matter what kind of business you have, bringing your product to life is much more involved than sketching it out on the back of a napkin and handing it over to an expert.

Whether it’s your logo, or business card, signage and other marketing materials, it’s important that you are able to communicate what you really want to your lead designer. And like any relationship you cultivate, you need to know how to speak her language.
