What are Nutritional Supplements?
The answer to this question is actually a lot easier than it might seem. However, before I get into it, I would like to explain how our diets can impact our overall health. There are plenty of fascinating sources like this one that describe this phenomenon, but they can be hard to understand at times.
Don’t worry. That’s why I’m here! Some diets are actually inherently anti-inflammatory. An example of this is the Mediterranean diet, filled with fruits, vegetables, and other delicious things like grains.
Something of particular interest for skin care are actually omega-three fatty acids. I know that sounds like something out of your biology classes back in school, but they are actually quite interesting to learn about. They can help lessen symptoms of skin diseases like eczema, acne, psoriasis, and even skin cancer! Definitely not something to sneeze at!
There are lots of ways you can consume omega three fatty acids. It could come from foods like salmon or walnuts. Of course, these are not always accessible or even enjoyable. Instead, you could try a supplement or flax seeds for flax oil!
One other thing I will discuss are probiotics. We hear about these all the time. So many things are advertised as being a probiotic. From yoghurt to cheese to pickled vegetables! But do they really help with our skin?
I’m here to tell you that the answer is yes. In fact, some of the strains of probiotics actually help to reduce damage from ultraviolet rays found in sunshine. If you struggle with things like rosacea, acne, or atopic dermatitis, you might want to consider researching what strains of pro biotics might best help you!

Why to Use Them?
Many skin conditions can have their symptoms lessened by an adjustment in diet or additional vitamins and minerals given to our bodies. There are a lot of options such as the Dr David Jack skin supplements, and many of them do improve our overall skin health. If you’re skeptical, I understand.
It might sound like it is too good to be true, but it’s really not. One of the best things to either get via a supplement or add to your diet is Vitamin C. It’s something found in orange juice – I can remember my middle school health classes encouraging me to drink a big cup of it each morning. I never thought they were serious!
This leads me into my next point, though. I actually do not like orange juice. I never have, honestly. In fact, I’m a really picky eater. I’m most at home eating chicken nuggets and French fries than anything else.
If this sounds like you, you might be like me and lack several important nutrients and vitamins that are important not only for our skin but our overall wellbeing. When I discussed it with my doctor, she recommended supplementing my diet otherwise.

When I learned there were other options, like powders to mix into a drink, I realized there were some supplements out there for me. Since starting to take them, I’ve noticed that I get a lot less acne on my face and under my chin. Those were my problem areas, before.
So, if you’re still not sure, try asking your physician. Especially if you don’t like a lot of the foods that important vitamins come from!
